Dear Patients and friends,

Things are moving along and if you’re being adjusted, you’re a lot healthier than you would be. It is 2016, so get ready for an amazing year… as we’re ready to help you and your family with their health care needs. Don’t forget that it’s winter and your body is under stress. Indoor stale air, colder weather, a lot of people coughing in closed, confined spaces, as well as less life giving sunlight are all stressing your system. You need to stay on top of your health. That flu vaccine won’t save you if you’re in poor health. Whatever you do, get adjusted, keep inflammation under control, wash your hands, get enough sleep and exercise to stay healthy and if you have any health related questions, please let me know. Enjoy the 14th and read what I had to say about Valentine’s Day.

Office Updates

New Fibromyalgia Treatment

Fibromyalgia affects thousands of people. It is often misdiagnosed and the term is used as a dumping ground for vague diseases when your doctor doesn’t know what else to call it. In fact, many in the medical profession still do not recognize it as a legitimate disease. The symptoms may include sleeplessness or difficulty sleeping, deep muscle aches, specific patterns of active painful trigger points, severe episodes of muscle pain, electrical shock pain and spasms. In fact, new research indicates that it is actually a form of neuropathy, not unlike neuropathy found in the feet of diabetics. It’s caused by damaged nerves. Up until now, treatment has been mostly medications such as pain killers, muscle relaxants and antidepressants. You have to be kidding me? Antidepressants?  Its nerve damage, not depression!!!

I have an effective way of not only easing pain, but can actually help repair the damaged nerves associated with Fibromyalgia. I am specially trained to tell you if you have neuropathic fibromyalgia or something else.

Plantar Fasciitis

This is often categorized by marked pain in the heel or bottom of the foot. Thought to be caused by inflammation of the fascia under the foot (a tendenous membrane that runs from the heel to the ball of the foot) and due to certain sports, poor shoes, prolonged standing, or improper inserts. Worse in the morning or after sitting for a while, it can make walking excruciating. Standard medical treatment include cortisone shots, pain killers, orthotics or in severe cases, surgery to cut the fascia. I have a new rapid release therapy (RRT) along with special adjustments, as well as taping techniques which are quite effective in easing this type of foot pain without these more drastic methods.

LEG PAIN? What are the Causes?

I don’t know if you’ve ever had leg pain, but you should read this and then share it with some of your friends.

The medical community tells you that most leg pain results from wear and tear, overuse, or injuries in joints or bones or in muscles, ligaments, tendons or other soft tissues. They don’t tell you it can be caused by nerves.

Some types of leg pain (a lot of leg pain) can be traced back to problems in your lower spine like I said. Your legs are “controlled” by your nerves and those complicated, sensitive nerves come from your spinal column.

Leg pain can also be caused by things like blood clots, varicose veins or poor circulation, so it’s imperative that you get checked now.

Some common causes of leg pain include:

If you have “any type” of leg pain, CALL… the office immediately. The longer you put off dealing with your PAIN, believing just in your heart… the PAIN… will JUST… ‘magically go away’, the longer it’s going to take you to get back to normal – where you have no pain.

How much money is spent on average on Valentine’s Day?

A new survey has the answer. The National Retail Federation polled 6,417 consumers in early January 2014 to ask about their Valentine’s Day plans. It turns out, 54 percent of Americans will celebrate with loved ones this year and the average amount they will spend on candy, cards, dinner and gifts is $133.91. If you’re not spending something close to that, you’re behind the times. Make someone happy on Valentine’s Day and you’ll have a much better evening.

9-5 Love

“My husband, a long time certified public accountant, works 13-hour days for the first few months of the year. Its tax season, people want to save money, and my husband is really good with numbers and getting the best tax returns, so his schedule is busy.

In spite of this hectic schedule, he took time out to order me flowers for Valentine’s Day.

While he is good at number crunching, he has trouble telling me how he feels. So he was pondering what sweet endearment to write on the card he purchased to give to me on Valentine’s Day, and obviously he began thinking of the many hours of work still ahead of him while he was pondering the words he wanted to write for me.

Well he finally put the final touches on the card. His note read: “Roses are red, violets are blue. If I weren’t thinking of you, I’d probably be through.”

—Fight Colds and Flu Naturally—

Vitamin D is not just for dieters… Whether you’re trying to slim down or not, it’s a good idea to pop a good vitamin D supplement, say scientists from Yale. They recently found that folks with the highest levels of vitamin D had a 50% lower risk of developing upper respiratory infections, like colds and flu; Danish researchers believe the vitamin boosts production of a protein that attacks infections. Though the RDA is 200 IU to 400 IU a day, many experts believe a higher dose is advised.

“Foods that REV UP your Circulation”

Just like taking a powerful prescription ACE inhibitor, eating a single serving of one of these foods can enlarge blood vessels, enhancing circulation (the key to great blood pressure control), say researchers:

  • 1 cup kefir or yogurt
  • 1 medium baked potato (with the skin)
  • 1 large apple
  • 12 oz. tomato juice

“I love you with all my art!”

What do farmers give their wives on Valentine’s Day?

Hog and kisses!

******My Final Thoughts*****

1) Flaxseed can ease hot flashes. Eating 2 Tbs. of ground flax twice a day can cut menopausal hot flashes in half within six weeks, research reveals. You can add it to cereal or yogurt.

2) Broccoli protects your breasts. Women who eat at least two servings a day of cruciferous vegetables-such as broccoli, cabbage and collard greens—are 43% less likely to develop breast cancer than those who don’t shows a new study of more than 50,000 women.

JOKE of the MONTH

—————————————————————————————————
As an airplane is about to crash, a female passenger jumps up frantically and announces, “If I’m going to die, I want to die feeling like a woman.”
She removes all her clothing and asks, “Is there someone on this plane who is man enough to make me feel like a woman?”
A man stands up, removes his shirt and says, “Here, iron this!”(And this is why I rarely take jokes from a patient)

—————————————————————————————————

Two neighbors are talking to each other.
First neighbor: Do you know that my dog is so smart, he waits for the newspaper to drop at the doorstep and then delivers it to me?
Second neighbor: Of course, I know that very well.
First neighbor: Really, well then, how?
Second neighbor: My dog came and told me.

New Years Quotes

You know it’s time for a New Year’s Resolution to Lose Weight when you step on a talking scale and it says, “One at a time, please!”

Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. – Mark Twain

Youth is when you’re allowed to stay up late on New Year’s Eve. Middle age is when you’re forced to. – Bill Vaughn

Weight Loss, Bariatric Surgery and Drugs

As an anti-aging specialist focused on natural, non-invasive therapies, I often talk to new patients   about their health and how excess weight can make their bodies old.

But I have to tell  you that  I was utterly horrified  when I read about a recommendation recently presented  at a joint conference of America’s  Endocrine Society and the International Society of Endocrinology. 1.  The recommendation was that people with serious weight problem should undergo stomach surgery and use weight-loss drugs to help shed their excess pounds.

Of course,  researchers focused on how people were more satisfied with their weight loss when they used prescription pills or stomach surgery.

And that’s great for mainstream medicine,  because hospitals, doctors and Big Pharma all make a lot of money  from peddling quick fixes like pills and surgery.

From their presentation, you would think that stomach surgery and prescription diet pills deserved unqualified stamps of approval from every doctor in the land. Well, they’re not going to get them from me.

First of all,  the study  –  which spread like wildfire across the Internet  –  came from what I consider less-than• impartial sources.  It used data from the National Health and Wellness Survey,  a 2012 poll of 39,000 respondents. The survey comes from marketing company Kantor Health, which makes a king’s ransom by helping bring to market  the products  of medical companies all over the world.

At the same time, the study was funded by Japanese pharmaceutical giant Eisai, the maker of the controversial weight-loss drug,  Belviq,  which is the brand name for Lorcaserin.  And at the presentation,  reps from Kantor and Eisai promoted weight-loss drugs and bariatric surgery as an integral part of weight-loss programs for the severely overweight.    So it’s no surprise that they focused on the success  stories of those protocols.2.

Based  on the study,  the Endocrine Society even announced new clinical guidelines for weight-loss drugs.3.  So let  me make my position clear:   I don’t believe in Big Pharma diet pills,  because of all the side effects and associated health risks.   And I don’t believe in any kind of surgery,  except as an absolute last resort.

To your body, there’s very little difference between being sliced open by a surgeon and slashed open by a mugger. You may be unconscious, but your body still suffers horrible trauma and stress.   And stress weakens your immune system and shortens your telomeres,  the tiny “time-clocks”  in each cell that determine how long you will live.

With bariatric surgery, you also risk a litany of serious complications.   They include kidney stones, pulmonary embolisms and deep-vein thrombosis  – to name just a few potential problems.4.

One of the most dangerous complications is “anastomotic leakage,”   which occurs when the internal surgical connections come undone.”

The mortality rate for bariatric surgery can be as high as 120 in 10,000, depending upon the procedure. 5.  But why would you risk any of these consequences when there are safer, natural ways to lose weight.  We have a program that works and we are not using any drugs or surgery.   Patients lose up to 1 pound of fat a day and keep it off. And that’s without exercising.  Check with us to see if you qualify for the program.

SCIATICA: WHAT is it REALLY??

Sciatica

Your sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in your body. It begins in your lower back as five smaller nerves joining together and it is found in your pelvis, thigh, knee, calf, ankle, foot and toes.

What Is Sciatica?
When such a large nerve becomes inflamed the condition is called sciatica (pronounced si’ad-a’ka) and the pain can be intense! The pain may follow the path of your nerve – down the back of your legs and thighs, down to your ankle, foot and toes – but it can also radiate to your back! Along with pain there may be burning, pins and needles, tingling, prickling, crawling sensations or tenderness. Ironically, the leg may also feel numb!

To complicate matters, although sciatica pain is usually in the back of the legs or thighs, in some people it can be in the front or side of the legs or even in the hips. For some, the pain is in both legs: bilateral sciatica!

The quality of the pain may vary. There may be constant throbbing but then it may let up for hours or even days; it may ache or be knife-like. Sometimes postural changes, like lying down or changing positions, affect the pain and sometimes they don’t. In severe cases, sciatica can cause a loss of reflexes or even a wasting of calf muscles.

For sciatica sufferers, a good night’s sleep may be a thing of the past. Simple things like walking, bending, turning, sitting or standing up can be difficult or impossible.

Causes Of Sciatica
Like most other conditions, sciatica has a wide variety of causes. An unhealthy spine with a protruded or ruptured disc that can irritate the sciatic nerve is one cause. Sciatica has been reported following accidents, injuries and even childbirth, usually due to spinal misalignment.(1) However advanced diabetes can also cause sciatic nerve irritation, as can arthritis, constipation, tumors and even vitamin deficiencies.

The Medical Approach
The medical approach to sciatica is usually treating symptoms with painkillers, muscle relaxants and orthopedic devices such as traction and physical therapy. Sciatica is particularly frustrating to treat with drugs because in many cases even strong painkillers bring little or no relief. However, relief may be obtained by injecting painkillers directly into the nerve roots! As with all painkillers, there is always a risk of drug dependency. In extreme cases orthopedic surgery may be resorted to.

For years medical doctors have prescribed bed rest for sciatica, yet there is little objective data to show it works. In fact there is increasing evidence that it is ineffective for low back pain as well as sciatica. (2)

The Chiropractic Approach
For over a hundred years the benefits the chiropractic spinal adjustment has on sciatica and leg pain have been reported. Many sciatica sufferers have experienced dramatic relief after chiropractic care. (3-4)  Many sufferers of sciatica and leg pain have found that chiropractic was superior to traction and pain injections, often saving them from having spinal surgery. (5-7)

In one controlled study four different approaches (spinal care, traction and two types of injections) were used to deal with low back pain and sciatica sufferers. The group that had spinal care experienced the greatest degrees of recovery. Interestingly, a large number in the traction group eventually required surgery.(8)

In another study 20 patients aged 20-65 with low back-related leg pain were divided into three groups that were given medical care, chiropractic care and steroid injections. After 12 weeks the medical and steroid injections showed no advantage over the safer, non-drug improvements the chiropractic patients experienced.(9)

Chiropractic care appears to have the most effect on sciatica when used first. Unfortunately many people first submit to medical care. Even in this group excellent results may be obtained with subsequent chiropractic care. Three thousand, one hundred and thirty-six people with lumbosciatalgia (lower back and sciatica pain) with disc disease (protrusion) who had previously had medical treatments such as physiotherapy and drugs with no positive results were given chiropractic care.

A follow-up two years later showed that 50.4% had excellent results with no painful relapses, 34.4% had relapses but then responded favorably after further chiropractic care. 15.2% showed no significant improvement.(10)

Another cause of leg pain involves damage to the spinal nerves that go to the legs. This condition is called neurogenic claudication. The sufferer can’t walk for long periods of time and has to stop walking and rest for a while. Symptoms may include pain and parasthesias that commence after walking and disappear following a rest period.

There may be cramping, pain, numbness, aching, and/or fatigue usually in the calf but also in the foot, thigh, hip or buttocks. Claudication means that it comes back when you walk the same distance again. There are vascular as well as neurologic causes. Although one way of dealing with this condition is surgery, spinal care should be tried first before medical and surgical techniques are resorted to.(11)

Conclusion
For over a hundred years sciatica sufferers have praised the blessings of chiropractic. All sciatica sufferers should call this office to ensure they have spines free from the vertebral subluxation complex (subluxation). A subluxation causes poor spinal misalignment, disc and nerve pressure and may stress the entire body. We help by correcting or removing subluxations, which relieves stress on your spinal nerves, joints and discs.

Chiropractic is a procedure for the analysis and correction of a serious condition that can damage your joints, muscles and nerves: the vertebral subluxation complex. If you do have sciatica, from whatever cause, OUR chiropractic spinal adjustment is very badly needed to remove pressure on your nerves, rebalance your spine, take stress off your discs and permit your body’s muscles, glands and tissues to function in a more balanced manner.

Every sciatica sufferer needs a healthy spine and therefore every sciatica sufferer should visit MY office for a spinal checkup.

OFFICE UPDATES

________________________________________________________________

I have been busy these past few months, taking advanced courses in disc mechanics, spinal mechanics and new treatment methods for plantar fasciitis, knee problems, shoulder problems and of course low back and neck conditions. If you have a problem, especially a chronic issue, let me revisit them and see if we can take you further.

If you have not been in recently, I will offer you a free consultation to discuss your problem and see what we can do to improve your quality of life.

Here’s what you can look forward to in “November.”

Make a note of this please.

There are two special holidays that I want to mention in this newsletter. The first is of course THANKSGIVING, and the second is National Adoption Day which is on the 19th, the Saturday before THANKSGIVING. This special day is promoted and sponsored by a variety of child care and adoption groups. This day was created to finalize thousands of annual adoptions, and to celebrate and give recognition to families that adopt children. It is also intended to raise awareness of the tens of thousands of children awaiting adoption. We want to take it a step further this month. We want to bring people in our community more love, happiness, and health. We are going to use National Adoption Day to take the first step in the adoption process of any of your friends, family and co-workers who might need our services. If they come to the office before THANKSGIVING DAY, we’d like to give them something special. This is our way of showing our appreciation for people in this community. If you know anyone that has a pain, would like to get an examination to find out if they’re aligned, or just want to make sure nothing else is going on even though they don’t have symptoms, we’re asking you to help us spread the word this month. And guess what? We have something special for you if they mention your name as the referring patient.

COOL FACTS

____________________________________________________________

On the fourth Thursday in November, families across the U.S. gather to feast on turkey, watch football, and gear up for Christmas by looking for Santa during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but did you ever wonder why these Thanksgiving traditions started?

Impress your children with these Thanksgiving Day facts:

  • The first Thanksgiving was held in the autumn of 1621 and included 50 Pilgrims and 90 Wampanoag Indians and lasted three days. Many historians believe that only five women were present at that first Thanksgiving, as many women settlers – didn’t survive their first difficult year in the U.S.
  • Thanksgiving didn’t become a national holiday until over 200 years later! Sarah Josepha Hale, the woman who actually wrote the classic song “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” convinced President Lincoln in 1863 to make Thanksgiving a national holiday, after writing letters for 17 years campaigning for this to happen.
  • No turkey on the menu at the first Thanksgiving: Historians say that no turkey was served at the first Thanksgiving! What was on the menu? Deer or venison, ducks, geese, oysters, lobster, eel and fish. They probably ate pumpkins, but no pumpkin pies. They also didn’t eat mashed potatoes or cranberry relish, but they probably ate cranberries. And no, Turduckens (a turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken) were nowhere to be found during that first Thanksgiving.
  • No forks at the first Thanksgiving! The first Thanksgiving was eaten with spoons and knives — but no forks! That’s right, forks weren’t even introduced to the Pilgrims until 10 years later and weren’t a popular utensil until the 18th century.
  • Thanksgiving is the reason for TV dinners! Surprise: In 1953, Swanson had so much extra turkey (260 tons) that a salesman told them they should package it onto aluminum trays with other sides like sweet potatoes — and the first TV dinner was born!
  • Thanksgiving was almost a fast — not a feast! The early settlers gave thanks by praying and abstaining from food, which is what they planned on doing to celebrate their first harvest, that is, until the Wampanoag Indians joined them and (lucky for us!) turned their fast into a three-day feast!

CHIROPRACTIC STUFF

Q: A patient asked me recently, “Doc, can a chiropractor help my knee pain? I really don’t know why my knee hurts but can you help?

A: There are many possible causes of knee pain, so I am going to try to answer your question from multiple aspects. In general, there are a few things that are important to know about chiropractic and knee pain. First, chiropractic alone (a joint mobilization to the knee) is likely not the only treatment that would need to be applied. (It all depends on what I find, how long you’ve had the problem, and what you’ve done for that pain in the past.) Also, we have some specialized physical therapy, and adjusting techniques… that can help you stretch and strengthen your joints. As far as X-rays, we can easily take care of that along with properly diagnosing the cause of your knee pain. Finally, if you are not seeing results, we’ll refer you to an orthopedic doctor, but you should definitely come to this office and find out if we can help you first.

Now without knowing the source of your knee pain… let me just say this. Your knees may begin to hurt if you spend too much time on your feet or you are suffering from arthritis. You are not alone. We see lots of patients who have knee problems from overuse of their knee joints, traumatic injury from events such as sports and falls and loads of pain due to arthritic changes in their joints.

Often the kneecap does not move smoothly enough when bending, causing abnormal stresses upon the tendons, cartilage and ligaments. You probably don’t know this but I am trained to provide the proper diagnosis and management of this problem through re-establishing proper muscle balance, restoring movement to the kneecap, and working with you to help you stretch your tendons so you can return to doing what you love to do. Strains and sprains often occur during sports that involve running and jumping. We also successfully treat these conditions.

Now knee pain might be the result of poor gait function. If poor mechanics or traumatic injuries are not corrected at an early age, and as soon as possible, the knee joint tissues will eventually begin to erode and break down. As a result, the bones rub upon one another and cause bone spurs. This painful condition is known as degenerative joint disease, or osteoarthritis, and is often progressive with age. It is critical to get treated by this office as soon as possible when injuries occur, so they do not progress over time.

If you would like more information, call the office, and schedule an appointment, plus you can also give us your email and join our mailing list.

WANT TO STAY THINNER?

If you want to stay thinner, or lose some WEIGHT, you have to Plan Your Meals

It’s said that failing to plan, means that you’re planning to fail. When it comes to meals designed to promote your health and eliminate unwanted calories, you’re going to have to heed this advice.

The problem is, if you fail to plan your meals you are basically eating according to either your emotions or lady w burgerwhatever whim may come over you around mealtime.

Both of these can mean added calories, poor nutritional choices and a growing waistline.

I do advise some general principles to follow when planning your meals, but the takeaway message to this nutritional no-no is you need to think independently of your shifting moods about what you will be consuming for up to the next week in advance — in order to keep your plate free of unnecessary calories.

This means shopping in advance with specific meals in mind and it means putting your intended meals down on paper and sticking to your meal schedule.

You’ve probably discovered that both of these things are much harder in practice than they are in theory. There’s a reason for that.

Processed food manufacturers are spending a lot of money, billions and billions of dollars each year, to convince you that their food will satisfy you emotionally. Processed foods are not the answer. Processed foods are part of your growing waistline problem.

Remember this truth as you take on the billion dollar advertising industry while you take control of your health! Plan your meals, and you’ll stay thinner. Oh and one more thing. Make sure you eat at least ONE SALAD per day. It’s good for you and you’ll be able to keep your weight in check if you’re overweight and trying to lose weight.

 YOU CAN GAIN 5-10 Pounds
OVER the HOLIDAYS

Worse Yet, 1-2 pounds can stay with you throughout the year, PERMANENTLY!

Being overweight or obese is not just an image problem, it is a health problem. Weight gain has been linked to cancer, diabetes, diseases of the gall bladder, kidney, liver, primary cause of arthritis in the lumbar spine, hips and knees, as well as many other diseases. It can shorten your life expectancy by Years!

Pre packaged processed meals and “diets” with fake brownies and diet soda won’t give you lasting weight loss.

We have the answer to help you lose up to a pound a day and also target the specific problem areas of fat accumulation you want to lose.

  • Metabolic Weight Program: We have a naturally based program that addresses all the factors necessary to allow your body to shed pounds of real fat quickly and safely. Detoxification, metabolic balance, hormonal balance, as well as a natural approach to food selection. We even give you an easy “step by step” calendar to make the entire process easier. You have to change your habits not just go on a diet.

  • Red Light Treatments: The use of specific red light frequencies, stimulate your fat cells to release their fat and allow your body to remove it naturally through the liver, kidneys and lymphatic system. There is no bruising, pain or tissue damage. Results can be seen immediately. You can target specific areas of your body like your belly, back, thighs, upper arms or even your face. You can lose 2 inches or more in a single hour session!red light

Dear Patient,

Are you ready for Halloween? If not, there’s still time. I remember one child that used to be in this office almost every week. Why? Because his system needed to be reset. October is a fun month. Kids are back in school, and the weather is cooling down – especially at night. So with life moving along at a rapid place, let’s start talking turkey. Oh yeah. I forgot. That’s for another time and another place.

Here’s what you can look forward to in “October.”
Make a note of these dates.

• Week 1 of October… Get Organized Wee
• Week 2 of October… Customer Service Week
• Week 3 of October… Fire Prevention Week
• Week 4 of October… Pet Peeve Week
COOL FACTS

Bladder infection? – Drink plenty of cranberry juice. High-acidic cranberry juice helps control harmful bacteria.
Bone problems? – Eat fresh pineapples. Bone fractures and osteoporosis can be prevented by the manganese in pineapple.
Head-cold? Eat garlic. Clear up that stuffy head with garlic. (Remember, garlic lowers cholesterol too.)
Diabetes? Eat broccoli and peanuts. The chromium in broccoli and peanuts helps regulate insulin and blood sugar.
Clogged arteries? – Eat avocados. Mono unsaturated fat in avocados lowers cholesterol.

While You are Sneaking Candy Out of
Your Kids Bag Think About This:

Butterfinger Minis

4 pieces: 180 calories, 8 grams fat, 18 grams sugar These sweets pack a serious amount of calories. Each Butterfinger Mini has a whopping 45 calories and 2 grams of fat. According to the calories burned calculator at Mayoclinic.com, a 145-pound person would need to briskly walk for 30 minutes to burn off 4 pieces of Butterfinger.

Starburst Fruit Chews

8 pieces: 160 calories, 3.5 grams fat, 23 grams sugar Most fruit candies contain very little or no fat. Starbursts are the exception. Each little piece contains 20 calories, which can add up — pretty quickly.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkin

1 piece: 180 calories, 11 grams fat, 16 grams sugar. Although the combination of chocolate and peanut butter can be tempting, this pumpkin can seriously derail your healthiest eating intentions. Opt for chocolates without peanut butter for calorie savings.

OFFICE UPDATE

The cooler weather is coming. It’s a stressful time of year. School is in full swing. Holidays are just around the corner. The media is chiming in telling you to go to Target, Walmart, Home Depot? and get your flu shot. Some think that is good disease prevention and living a healthy lifestyle. In Spite of the CDC enthusiastically declaring this seasons flu shot a “good match” they admitted that it would not prevent an epidemic if this were to be a “bad” flu season. Two, there are many bacteria and viruses not related to it, so you are still at risk of severe illness. Three, there are risks like Guillain-Barre Syndrome, (GBS),Optic neuritis Brachial neuritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, etc…associated with the simple flu shot.

Ok so now that I have stood on the vaccine soap box, now what? A better way to prevent ALL infections is to strengthen your body, your immune system as a whole, not try to outsmart nature (it never worked and never will. Just look at the decline of antibiotic effectiveness and superbugs).

This year, I have decided to be more proactive and offer a few special products. One such product is VIR. It is a high potency anti-viral, immune boosting liquid supplement you take to prevent illness like flu, colds, etc. Unlike medications, it enhances your body’s defense across the board, not just one type of illness.

Another product to add to your winter arsenal is our anti inflammation liquid supplement. Inflammation is the core foundation of many disease processes in our bodies. Reducing inflammation gives you another defense against seasonal stressors.

RED LIGHT UPDATE

ultraslim light

As many of you have been reading, we have brought in new fat loss technology. Many of you have taken advantage of this technology to lose fat inches off your stomach, upper arms, legs, thighs, chin, or smooth out cellulite, etc.
I know there are some of you who can’t understand how just laying down for 30 minutes, can eliminate 1,2 or even 3 inches of belly fat. It seems too easy.
How it works: By exposing your fat cells to certain red frequencies of light, they are energetically stimulated to release their fat content. The fat is then eliminated, naturally, through your lymphatic system, processed by your liver and excreted through the kidneys and intestines. Diet and Exercise are recommended but not mandatory. Unlike most other fat elimination techniques, such as lipo suction, cryo contour or hot laser, this does not damage your fat cells or surrounding tissue. There is no pain or bruising. You can go back to work immediately with no downtime. This fat loss can be permanent, if you follow some commonsense dietary rules (like skipping the chicken wings and beer).
We have been able to secure exclusive regional rights to the most advanced LED device available. It is FDA approved and is more powerful than the contour light we have been using. In fact, we can basically guarantee fat loss with one session. It is typical for someone to lose 1-2 inches in 30 minutes.
Remember, there is no downtime, bruising, pain, no tissue damage.
It Is Safe and Effective!
Exclusive Patient Offer: If you are an active patient, you pay just $39 to try this amazing device.
We are so confident that this will work for you, we are willing to Guarantee that you will lose some belly Fat in just one session or you don’t pay!! We have typically seen a 1-2 inch loss of belly fat in an introductory session (that is equivalent to 7-12, thirty minute workouts!) If you don’t see any measured difference, you can walk away, No Cost!!

chiropractic stuff

Your spinal column, YOUR BACK PORTION is made up of 24 independent vertebrae (bones), and is what allows your body to move, twist, and bend through every motion of your busy day. Motion is important because the better you move, the more you can do and produce. Movement keeps you younger. These bones also encase and help protect the delicate central nervous system that controls and coordinates every muscle, tissue and organ of the body. This is why first step to an active lifestyle is a properly functioning spine. When two or more vertebrae of your back aren’t functioning together properly, it is what we as chiropractors refer to as a subluxation or a misalignment.
These subluxations are actually Joint Dysfunctions that can cause you to experience pain, discomfort, decreased mobility, or many other symptoms and conditions.
Sometimes you don’t even know you have these misalignments because you will NOT experience any symptoms. None! So you can’t base your alignment on whether you have symptoms or not. Therefore, joint dysfunctions often go unnoticed and can cause miscommunication between your brain and body.
Joint Dysfunctions in the spine may eventually lead to symptoms in other parts or joints of the body as well. That’s when most people call our office.
The thing is, these symptoms are your body’s only way of letting you know something is wrong. Unfortunately, like I said, just the absence of pain is not an indication of your health.
By the time pain and symptoms appear the problem may have been present for months, even years. Breast cancer can be there for 10 years and a woman will never know it until she finally feels the lump. The great news is that you can help prevent these types of symptoms and conditions with routine chiropractic care.

Frequently Asked Questions You Can Share With Your Friends
What can Chiropractic do for me & my family?
Your nervous system controls EVERYTHING your body does – whether you’re aware of it or not. Growth & development, healing & immune system response, heart health, emotions, behaviors, & MORE, are all dependent upon clear nervous system communication to EVERY body cell. Whether or not you’re currently struggling with a health challenge, Chiropractic care helps your brain & body communicate clearly so you & your family can heal, function, & grow at your best!
What is a “Subluxation”?
A subluxation is a spinal misalignment causing interference in essential nervous system communication between your brain & body. Subluxations are created by everyday chemical, physical & emotional stresses that are not only present now, but may have happened in the past, like old injuries, emotional upset, even childbirth! At this office we adjust subluxations to improve nervous system function & health potential in people of all ages. This includes seniors and newborns.
I don’t have back pain – Why would I go to you as a Chiropractor?
Chiropractic care is a natural health discipline that focuses on the care of your spine and nervous system to improve your overall function, growth and healing. Remember, chiropractic care doesn’t “cure” anything – not even back or neck pain – but when your nervous system and spine function better, without imbalance and stress, your body naturally feels better. Feeling better is just one small benefit of regular adjustments. Yes, a lot of people have recovered from illnesses, injuries, and even pain under our care, but regular chiropractic care as part of a healthy lifestyle allows your body to adapt better to the everyday stresses put upon it, before a crisis of illness or injury interferes with your quality of life. “Being healthy” is very different from “just not being sick”, and health has a LOT more to do with how your body functions, than how your body feels. For example, many devastating diseases can go on for years without a single symptom (i.e. heart disease, cancer) and yet a person seems “healthy” because they “feel good”. Conversely, symptoms such as fever or vomiting, certainly don’t “feel good”, but are a part of your “healthy” body’s natural defenses to ‘fight’ infection or eliminate a toxin. Adapting to stresses (chemical, physical and emotional) before they become crises is the true realization of health and wellness. Regular chiropractic care at this office… helps your body better adapt to stress by balancing the spine and nervous system for improved function, growth and healing, regardless of your age, or current health situation.

September Newsletter Header

Dear Patient,

I don’t know about you, but the year is flying by. I thought August would slow down, but it didn’t, and I’ll bet September is going to fly by as well. A lot of times we get “so busy” that we forget some crucial holidays, but this month is a little slower in the holiday department. I think we only have one major holiday to deal with, but here’s a list if you have forgotten any.

  • 7th Labor Day.
  • 11th 911 Remembrance.
  • 13th Grandparents Day the first Sunday after Labor Day.
  • 14th Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year)
  • 17th Constitution Day.
  • 22 Yom Kippur
  • 28 Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles)
  • September: FREE EXAM for any of your friends…

COOL FACTS

1. September is the ninth month and the only month with the same number of letters in its name in English as the number of the month.
2. September is the only month in which share prices have more often fallen than risen.
3. The only US president to have had a September birthday was William Taft (president 1909-13).
4. In America, the first Sunday after the first Monday in September is celebrated as National Grandparents’ Day.
5. Richard Saunders, the 17th century English astrologer and physician, said it was good to eat pomegranates and goats’ milk in September.
6. The last day of September in any year always falls on a different day of the week from the last day of any other month.
7. At least six films have had the title ‘September’, which is more than any other month.

Office Updates

I am going to recap a lot of the information I have given you in the past few months because many of you had questions.

If you have seen the news recently, you know that the attorney general has cracked down on supplement distributers, especially the big chains such as Walmart, Target, GNC, etc. They claim many supplements tested, had little or no evidence that they contained the substances found on the label! I have had many concerned patients ask me for advice. Therefore, I have reactivated my account with Emerson Ecologics, a reputable distributor of quality, professional grade herbs, vitamins and supplements. By creating an account with them, with my codes, you will be able to receive a discount off their retail prices. The more orders they receive from my office, the more of a discount my patients receive. The prices actually are equal or less than to what you were spending at GNC or the vitamin stores, anyway.

Go to www.emersonecologics.com and create an account. Fill in the application and on the bottom, it will ask you for the health practitioner’s postal code 12206 and Access code which is Health. Of course ask me my advice before ordering any supplement!!

I have added a new therapy to the office. It is called Rapid Release and uses a high frequency vibration type machine. Make no mistake, this is not a massager unit but a specifically tuned, high frequency therapy unit, designed to affect soft tissue conditions using resonance. Picture an opera singer shattering a glass by hitting the resonance frequency of the glass. The technology was designed to target scar tissue and tissue adhesions. It can be used to reduce scar tissue and fibrosis, rapidly reduce trigger points, reduce tendon contractures such as in trigger finger, ease the pain of neuromas (common in the feet), tendinitis and tendonosis, knee, elbow and shoulder pain, nerve entrapment such as in carpal tunnel without the need for surgery, treats TMJ and reduces back spasm.

Obesity, Spinal Problems, Arthritis and Disc Disease

If you have read my newsletter I have been on a mission to help my patients and the community, lose weight and get healthier. I have discussed the relationship between obesity and cancer, as well as other health issues. Many of you have taken my advice regarding weight loss and have called to hear more about what we offer. I would like to add one closer to home for my patients. Arthritis, degenerative disc disease and joint pain are all associated with excess body weight. Additional weight on spinal joints, hips, knees and feet can contribute to premature wear and tear on these structures.

What can you do about this?

Step 1:
Exercise: Exercising has two purposes. First it raises the metabolic rate and allows for weight loss and toning of muscles. Second, it helps maintain the normal function of joints. Although it isn’t essential for a weight loss program, moderate exercise can be beneficial in slowing the degenerative process

Step 2:
I have a metabolic weight loss program designed to help you lose weight safely and quickly. Our patient’s routinely lose about ½ to a pound per day without starving. It concentrates on fat loss, not muscle or organ loss and increases your energy levels. You are taught to eat real food, not prepackaged meals and you are weaned off the need for “sweet” thus eliminating your addictive need for sugars (a major point of sabotaging permanent weight loss).

Step 3:
Contour Light Therapy
Imagine laying down, spending 30 minutes relaxing, then getting up and finding out you’ve lost an inch or so around your waist. Our patients have done this time and again in their introductory session. The Contour Light Program blends science and physiology to allow you get healthier and lose inches off of those hard to reach places like the waist, belly, chin, thighs and arms. The Contour Light Fat Loss Program treats all the areas on the body that are resistant to diet and exercise. Specific wavelengths of light stimulate fat cells to release their fat. You then metabolize the fat and eliminate fat through the lymphatic system. We have even added whole body vibration to this program to make this easy and immediate.

For current patients we have a special offer: Your intro visit to try the LED FAT LOSS TECHNOLOGY is FREE ($125 Value). If you love the results, I have special patient discounted packages just for you! This is an exclusive offer. Only for our regular active patients. Others will have to pay $57 for the introductory session. This has to be a limited offer so first come first serve. It may be withdrawn at anytime.

Who Are You If You’re Born This Month?

Classified as ‘perfectionists’, people born in the month of September are extremely hard working. They are detail-oriented and organized and are almost perfect in whatever they do.
Their only problem is that they like to point out other people’s mistakes and criticize them even for trivial matters. Otherwise, they are calm and composed individuals and generally excel in the professions such as medicine, law, teaching, writing and designing.

“Farmer’s Names”

George, the farmer, had so many children that he ran out of names. So he started calling his kids after something around his farm.
It was the first day of September and the first day the children had gone to their new school. The teacher greeted the children and asked each child their name. When he got to one of the farmer George’s sons, the boy replied, ‘Wagon Wheel.’
The teacher said, ‘I need your real name boy, to which the lad replied, ‘It’s Wagon Wheel, sir….Really.’
The teacher, rather annoyed rejoined, ‘All right young man, take yourself right down to the Principal’s office this minute.’
The youngster pushed himself out of his chair, turned to his sister and said, ‘C’mon, ‘Chicken Feed’, he ain’t gonna believe you, either.

CHIROPRACTIC STUFF

Spinal Stenosis Diagram

The picture you see above is a drawing depicting what your spinal cord looks like if I were looking at your spinal bones from a top view. If you notice the yellow part, that’s depicted as your CNS, or central nervous system/spinal cord.

You may not even know what Spinal stenosis is and what it can do to you, but it is a potential consequence of osteoarthritis and/or degenerative changes in your spine. That’s why we take x-rays. To find out if in fact you have things like spinal stenosis, and what can be done to either slow it down, or stop its progression.
A lot of people, especially younger people don’t take that seriously because of one reason. They’re YOUNG, and therefore, they don’t have the issues they have when they start hitting 40 or 50 years old.
The hallmark of spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spaces through which the spinal cord and/or spinal nerve roots pass. Nerves and the spinal cord are made of very sensitive material, and when they come into contact with nearby bones, symptoms often result. Now when I say come in contact with nearby bones, I’m talking about just a slight amount to cause major symptoms. And really, what your
body is doing is finally telling you, “Hey, you have some problems. Get me to a chiropractor so you can get these taken care of.”
Arthritis and spinal stenosis usually results from aging or trauma from injuries, impact and the like. So what can help besides regular adjustments to your spine?

Regular Exercise May Help Prevent Spinal Stenosis

I’m sure not everyone that reads my newsletters will agree with me, but I know you’re probably one of the many that do. The fact is, we as human beings… all need regular exercise – and like I said, it just comes with you being a human.
You’ll want an exercise plan that’s tailored to who you are as an individual – which means it takes your age, health concerns, including any arthritis or spinal stenosis (if you have those), and your fitness level into consideration (how long it’s been since you’ve walked or been to the gym). It may help you safely build your endurance, increase or maintain your spinal flexibility and develop those good ‘ole back supporting abdominal muscles. I’ve found out one thing. If you sit at a desk, you need to move every thirty minutes. That means if you don’t move, you’re not activating the proper hormones and enzymes to keep you fit. When you’re moving you are getting these enzymes engaged and working. When that happens, your chances of gaining weight are reduced, but that still doesn’t mean you can eat junk food and maintain your weight. So in summary, make sure you’re x-rayed to check any progression of spinal stenosis, and make sure that you move around every thirty minutes.

Stress and Belly Fat

I have a little science lesson for you about your “belly fat” hormone, also known as cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that your body releases to deal with stress, and unfortunately high levels of cortisol have been linked to increased levels of abdominal fat.

Want to reduce cortisol and burn more belly flab? Here are 3 things that you can do starting today:

1. Work less – New research shows that if you work more than 48 hours per week, the likelihood of consuming excess alcohol goes up dramatically. Alcohol consumption increases cortisol, and together they both increase belly fat. If you’re looking to shrink your belly, trimming back your working hours while choosing calorie-burning exercise for stress relief (in lieu of alcohol) will do wonders for your waistline.

2. Don’t consume caffeine after 6PM – Although caffeinated beverages can enhance fat-burning when consumed around exercise, caffeine can be a double whammy on cortisol levels, especially if consumed at night when it’s very likely to negatively affect the quality of your sleep. Getting quality, uninterrupted sleep each night is critical to reducing cortisol, so you’ll want to avoid caffeine in the evening hours.

3. Take time to “unplug” – A recent Canadian study showed that those who were constantly “plugged in” to technology all throughout the day (TV, smart phones, computers) were significantly more stressed than those who took time to “unplug” during designated time blocks each day. More stress = more belly fat, so if you want a trim belly start planning some device-free time each day.
